[Procedure for applying for thesis examination in the second semester of the academic year 2022] Master’s students shall submit the application according to the required documents at each step, and doctoral students shall submit the application separately as explained in the following sections of the “Notes.”

[Submission of Proposal]

I. Master’s students who want to apply for the oral defense in the second semester of the academic year 2022 shall upload the thesis “Proposal” signed by their respective advisor before March 6, 2023 (Mon.) (hardcopy not required) on the specified webpage. Notes:

(1) Please visit https://reurl.cc/xg0D21 by February 17, 2022 (Fri.) to register relevant data, and the upload page will be provided by the Department Administrative Office via email after February 17, 2022.

(2) The upload webpage is open from February 20, 2023 (Mon.) to March 6, 2023 (Mon.) (Students shall fully prepare the files by themselves before the above-mentioned open period to facilitate the upload procedures).

(3) File name: “111-2+Student_Proposal (Name of the Advisor).” Example: 111-2 Chen, XX_Proposal (Professor Fang, Chiung-Yao)

(4) File format: Please upload the files in pdf format (students shall combine a proposal cover signed by his/her advisor and the other required files into one pdf file to be uploaded).

II. Please also confirm whether you have completed the “Academic Research Ethics Education” course online.

III. For the reference format of the proposal, please visit the “Courses/Master’s Program/Files/Graduation” of the Department’s official site (https://www.csie.ntnu.edu.tw/index.php/course_ms/download/) to download the template.

[Steps for Review of Credits]

Master’s students applying for the thesis oral defense in the second semester of the academic year 2022 (i.e., those who have uploaded the proposal according to [Submission of Proposal], or those who have passed the oral defense and are scheduled to undergo the procedures of graduation in this Semester) shall submit an application to the system before 5:00 p.m. on April 28, 2023 (FRI.) and deliver the following file to the Department Administrative Office to facilitate the review of graduation credits (those who have passed the oral defense are exempted from submitting the files specified in the following Items 1-9).

(1) Declaration of Academic Integrity(Not required for filling in, the thesis examination system will automatically generate it).

(2) Table for Review of Credits for Thesis Examination

(3) List of selected courses for the second semester of the academic year 2022 (the list is not required to be signed by the advisor but by the student who selected the courses; those who do not take any courses are not required to submit it)

(4) Transcript covering all the courses taken (please attach the version printed by the University, not the one from the course selection system)

(5) One copy of the draft of the thesis (Please upload the draft to the plagiarism inspection system for comparison to generate the originality report of the thesis.)

(6) One copy of the report on the originality of the thesis generated by the online plagiarism system (the Department Administrative Office will take the initiative to add the list of classmates to the system, and online operation will be available once receiving the mail sent by the system. If you have not yet received the mail after April 1, 2022, please contact the Departmental Administrative Office. The comparison report generated shall be signed by the advisor anywhere on the cover. To save paper consumption, please print the report on both sides, or only print the content of the cover and the section showing the percentage upon the consent of the advisor.

(7) Abstract of the thesis (generally, 300 words in Chinese or English)

(8) One copy of the certificate for completion of courses in “Academic Research Ethics Education”.

(9) Those who have already passed the graduation threshold of English competency may submit the certificate simultaneously but shall at the latest submit it before completing the graduation procedures (those who have passed the English test or the online English grammar courses of the University are exempt from submitting the supporting document since the Department Administrative Office will check the results online).

[Steps for the Thesis Examination]

1. Application documents (the documents required for this step are recommended to be submitted two weeks before the date of the oral defense, so that the Department Administrative Office can prepare the electronic appointment letter and forms for related fees, etc.).

(1) Oral Defense Committee List (also required to log in to the system for filling in the data).

(2) Letter of recommendation from the advisor for the oral defense.

2. Poster for the oral defense (to be prepared by the candidates themselves, and it is recommended to post it no later than one day before the date of the oral defense).

3. Score form (submitted by the candidate or the advisor to the Department Administrative Office after the oral defense, which is not required to be submitted on the same day of the oral defense).

(1) Thesis grading sheet (one copy for each oral defense committee member).

(2) Average score table (one copy).

(3) Thesis Defense Evaluation Form (one copy).

(4) Thesis Approval Form (Two copies shall be printed, both of which are to be signed by the oral defense committee members).

[Key Dates]

  1. Expiry Date for Thesis Examination: July 31, 2023 (Mon.)
  2. The final deadline for submission of the thesis is August 21, 2023 (the exact date shall be subject to the announcement by the Office of Academic Affairs).
